How Diabetes Affects the Body

Our bodies are very complex organisms that require a delicate balance to ensure that we remain healthy and productive.  Uncontrolled or undiagnosed diabetes, type l and ll can effect the entire body system, and when blood sugar can not be kept under control, it has long term effects not only on  the body but also on an individuals quality of life.  According to the American Diabetes Association, the long term effects of uncontrolled diabetes can damage nerves, kidneys, eyes, cardiovascular system, skin, mouth, hearing, lower limbs, and can promote pregnancy complications. The excess sugar in the blood damages the inside of the small vessels, excess sugar also promotes bacterial and fungal growth in an area where there may be a wound in the skin.  Infection can be difficult to control and become a real danger to limbs or the body as a whole.
