There is a correlation between diabetes and heart health. According to the American Diabetes Association, heart attack or stroke is a complication that is twice as likely to strike a person with diabetes as it is to strike  someone without the disease. Many of the factors that place a person at risk for developing diabetes are the same factors that place them at risk for cardiovascular disease.   High blood pressure, inactivity, obesity, out of control blood sugar are all risks for both type ll diabetes and for cardiovascular disease. For a person who already has diabetes, prolonged high blood glucose levels can contribute to increased fatty deposits on the inside of artery walls, which is a sure path to cardiovascular disease.
The sources I used to compile this information are located in the web links to the right of this post.
